Chapter seventeen
Iwanted to stay curled up in bed together all day, but Eban had other ideas. He got up and went for a swim followed by some yoga. I didnât need to watch him, but I did. It was nice to see how he earned his fabulous body. It was even more wonderful just to spend time with him.
Then it was time to get ready for an event at an art gallery. It was hard to get back into the mindset of being just his bodyguard again. I knew I needed to behave impeccably. Hyde would be watching. He would be pissed off if anything was obvious. Gossips didnât need much to start a scandal. As much as Hyde didnât care personally, I knew he would not tolerate being subjected to ridicule.
I told myself that I was a professional and that I could do it. I needed to do it if I wanted to keep my job and be near Eban.
As we entered the art gallery, I concentrated on keeping a measured three steps away from Eban. He grabbed a drink off of the tray a passing server was holding and launched straight into conversation with a group of people.
Hyde wandered off to talk to a different group. My eyes fell upon the art on display. It was hideous. Why anyone would want it on their walls was beyond me. It was probably a good thing the prices werenât displayed or else I might have had a seizure.
Ebanâs little crowd drifted away but he wasnât standing alone for long. A young man, all but bounced up to him. He had short, very curly hair that was an attractive deep red. His eyes were large and brown. Freckles painted his face. With his short and very slender frame, he was the epitome of cute. It made me realize how smitten I was, because I couldnât fully appreciate his good looks.
âCousin!â he beamed brightly at Eban.
âColby,â replied Eban with an air of great resignation.
Colbyâs gaze flicked to me, and his eyes widened. âWhy is your bodyguard so hot!â he exclaimed. âItâs not fair!â
Eban said nothing but I could picture him rolling his eyes.
âSeriously, what is Hyde thinking? And why donât my parentsâ think like that, instead of lumping me with Denise. Donât suppose you want to swap?â he said, gesturing at a short, very muscled woman in her forties.
Her salt and pepper hair was shaved into a buzz cut. I could tell by her stance she knew her stuff. She was standing across the room, looking like she wasnât paying the slightest bit of attention, but I could tell her focus was fully on her charge.
âMaybe,â drawled Eban, snapping my attention back to him in outrage.
He leaned in close to his cousin but I heard every word.
âShe looks like she really knows how to fuck. You wouldnât forget getting pegged by her in a hurry.â
Colbyâs eyes grew huge and his hand flew up to his mouth in an effort to hide his shocked giggle.
